Way back in 1974 I was a 9th grader in junior high school. Everyone in that graduating class had the ability to sell “booster raffles” to help pay for our yearbook. I believe for every 10 that one sold, they would be able to get a 45 of their choice. At the time I didn’t realize how cool a school that I went to was, but that is a story for another day.
I remember selling enough of them to get several 45’s. I remember receiving Billy Paul’s “Me and Mrs. Jones” and others. But my favorite was Badfinger’s “Day after Day” on the Apple label disc.
Originally the group called themselves The Iveys, naming themselves after a street in their hometown of Swansea. One of the first acts signed to the Beatles Apple label, they were a very talented group of rockers that could play with the best of them.
Their story is tragic, but the great music lives on.
Happy Birthday Pete Ham.
